Research In Motion signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bandung Institute of Technology at ITB Campus, Bandung, Tuesday, May 22, 2012. MoU Memorandum goes on in March.
RIM says ready to invest U.S. $ 5 million over five years to build RIM Innovation Center in the ITB.
"This partnership demonstrates the commitment RIM to Indonesia," said Coordinating Minister for Economy, Hatta Rajasa.
"We give full support to RIM and ITB for this cooperation. We see it as an important marker for the strengthening of local infrastructure, job creation, and education programs for students in Indonesia, "he added.
According to Hastings Singh as Managing Director of South Asia RIM, RIM's vision of this partnership to put Indonesia as a key center of innovation. Indonesia will be directed to the development of applications and mobile content in South East Asia region and worldwide.
"ITB is a prestigious institution in Indonesia and is a good partner of RIM to cooperate in a progressive initiative. We believe that the linkage between business, education, and innovation are very closely related to the economic prosperity that can contribute to building a strong knowledge economy, "said Singh.
Prof. Dr. Akhmaloka as ITB Rector welcomed the collaboration with RIM. Innovation center is expected to establish new jobs and businesses in the area of mobile computing is growing very rapidly.
"We believe that RIM and ITB have the same vision for the empowerment of research and training for application developers," said Akhmaloka.
RIM will open training for ITB students. The course can be a container of students learn to develop and market mobile applications. Various seminars and conferences to spark innovation and entrepreneurial spirit will be held.
RIM Innovation Center is planned to open this year. Scholarships will be provided to help students join the program.
